They’ll Invent a Substance or a Machine, Ervin Hatibi
Soon they’ll invent a substanceOr a machine, who knows, women will succeed,And men will, too,In slimming magically, “butterflies of some tragic drinkThat go blind inside the chalice of youth,”In losing weight, their exact dimensions will scorn us.The sweat of the architect physician will drip, like a compass,On that boiled rose,That bourgeois French revolutionWhich divides the…
Ajdin Asllan – Valle Devollice
“Muzike Shqiptare e Drejtuar Prej Ajdin Asllan (Leskoviku)” reads the label to this slightly mysterious and certainly scarce 12″ 78rpm record on the American Mi-Re Rekord label. The sentence means, “Albanian Music Directed by Ajdin Asllan, of Leskoviku,” and from there we can begin to delve into the music, and the record’s origins. The piece,…

The traditional clothing of Albania (Albanian: Veshjet Tradicionale Shqiptare; Veshjet Kombëtare; Veshjet Popullore or Kostumet Kombëtare) include more than 200 different varieties of clothing in all Albania and the Albanian-speaking territories and communities (including the Arbëreshë in Italy, Arvanites in Greece and Arbanasi in Croatia). Albania’s recorded history of clothing goes back to classical times. It is one of the factors that has differentiated this nation from other European countries, dating passed the Illyrian period.
Albanian Costume Collection at Metropolitan Museum Of Art (New York)

Almost every cultural and geographical region in Albania has its own specific variety of costume that varies in detail, material, color, shape, and form. Albanian folk dress is often decorated with symbolic elements of Illyrian antique pagan origin, like suns, eagles, moons, stars, and snakes. Fabrics are traditionally made by weaving clothes using looms. To this day, some conservative old men and women mainly from the North wear traditional clothing in their daily lives. Instead, older women from the South usually wear all-black outfits. (Source: Wiki)
